Pole Shed Prices in NZ

Written by Alpine Buildings | November 6 2023

Interested in building a pole shed? While the price will depend on various factors, a wooden pole shed offers exceptional value as it provides a long-term return on investment due to the durability of the design and the 50-year building consent that it comes with.

In this article, we outline kitset pole shed prices in New Zealand and provide some available options from Alpine Buildings. We also look at some factors that can increase the price of the shed, such as design, location and shed specifications.

Key factors of pole shed NZ prices

When designing and building a shed, the total shed cost is determined by a combination of the following:

Shed size

The larger the shed, the higher the cost. This may seem fairly obvious however the reality is, as the size of the shed increases, so does the complexity of the design, especially in the case of a clearspan pole shed. For example, a shed with a span of 15.0m requires a lot more engineering than a shed with a span of 9.0m. In some cases, the pole sizes, the size of the steel rafters and the amount of bracing will need to be increased.

Location

While Alpine offers free delivery to anywhere in New Zealand (offshore islands excluded), location still plays a big part in determining the price of your shed.

For example, a pole shed in Central Otago will cost more than a pole shed in Blenheim because of the extra engineering and strengthening required to withstand the high snow loading in Central Otago.

Sheds built in coastal areas will need coastal grade cladding, which will push the cost up compared to a shed that is built further inland.

Shed design

Centre-pole sheds are usually cheaper than clearspan sheds, but they may reduce space and efficiency. Clearspan sheds typically cost more due to the need for stronger support materials but may offer productivity benefits in the long run.

Door size and motors

The larger the roller door, the higher the cost. For example, a standard 3.0m x 3.0m Series 1 roller door is the least expensive. While Series 1 doors are cost-effective, 3.0m square opening is often too small to fit larger machinery and caravans. In this case, a larger door is required and this comes with its challenges.

Depending on the size of the door and how much wind the site experiences, you may need to upgrade to a Series 2 or a roller shutter door. These heavy duty industrial grade doors perform better in high wind and are generally more secure than a Series 1 door. However, they do cost more.

For standard roller door motors, prices vary between $500 and $1,000 per door and roller shutter motors start at approximately $1,500. This can add up significantly depending on how many doors your shed has.
